Leeds United are hoping to have Junior Firpo back in just two weeks in what would be a major boost, the Athletic report.

Big boost incoming?

Firpo is currently suffering with a muscular injury, as Leeds desperately try to get players off the treatment table.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side were without numerous key players at the weekend, including Patrick Bamford and Kalvin Phillips.

As a result their display against Southampton was poor and they fell to a defeat.

Dan James did have a good chance to equalise for Leeds, but there were few complaints about them having to return empty handed from the south coast.

Worrying start

Leeds now sit just above the relegation zone, having taken just six points from their opening eight games.

Stuart Dallas had to fill in at left-back at the weekend, such was Bielsa’s paucity of options in the area, with Firpo sidelined.

But the good news for Leeds is that the club are hopeful the injury will not be a particularly long-term one.

Leeds may have to do without Firpo for their next three games, but a return for the rapid left-back against Leicester City is now a possibility.

And Bielsa’s side will be desperately hoping that they can get the summer signing, who Angus Kinnear has described as ‘world-class’ (Square Ball podcast), back to full fitness as they look to get their line-up back to somewhere near full strength in the coming weeks.
