England team selectors are closely monitoring Aston Villa striker Cameron Archer for a possible youth-level call-up, per The Athletic, sparking some fans to react on social media.

The Young Lions are scouting Archer following a sublime start to the season in the Villans’ first-team and development side. He has scored 10 goals in eight games in all competitions so far, including four in four under Dean Smith. The forward has also provided three assists.

Archer marked his first senior Aston Villa start by netting a hat-trick in their 6-0 Carabao Cup rout over Barrow. He also scored the Villans’ initial equaliser in the third-round at Chelsea, before losing on penalties to Thomas Tuchel’s Blues.

Smith rewarded Archer’s EFL Cup efforts, two years on from debuting in the competition, with his Premier League bow. The youngster played the final four-minutes at Manchester United and came on in the last minute against Tottenham Hotspur.

England team selectors are keeping close tabs on how Archer performs with Aston Villa for a potential youth-level call-up. The 19-year-old is yet to represent his country at any level, but his eye-catching efforts have now put him in contention for future Under-20 fixtures.

Walsall-born Archer could also represent Wales, but has not received any communication from the Welsh Football Association yet. Additionally, he is yet to confirm which nation is his preference. While Wales would need further checks to see whether he is eligible.
