Reported Arsenal target Andre Onana has reached a verbal agreement with Inter Milan, with the Serie A side passing on the chance to sign Bernd Leno.

Fabrizio Romano posted to Twitter that Leno was ‘never an option’ for the Italian champions as we head into the January window, with Inter now close to signing Onana, who Arsenal reportedly wanted in the summer.

The Germany international has found himself on the bench in the past four Premier League games as Aaron Ramsdale has asserted himself as Arsenal’s new number one keeper, for now.

The 23-year-old shot-stopper has impressed since surpassing Leno in the XI, with Ramsdale keeping three clean sheets in September. And all signs point to the former Bayer Leverkusen star leaving in January.

Indeed, Leno could be another hard player for Arsenal to offload given his £100k-a-week wages, which is likely why Inter opted to reach an agreement with Onana, who reportedly earns just £35k-a-week.

Moreover, with Onana’s contract expiring next summer, Inter will not have to pay a fee for the Cameroonian international. Whereas Arsenal would have likely commanded a transfer fee.
