Steven Gerrard has confirmed that Filip Helander will be out of action for Rangers for a few months due to injury.
Speaking to the press ahead of tomorrow’s UEFA Europa League opener against Olympique Lyonnais, the Rangers manager confirmed that the Swedish defender has gone under the knife.
Helander suffered an injury in Rangers 2-1 win over St. Johnstone, with the centre-back going off in a stretcher. And speaking to the press ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Lyon, Gerrard confirmed that the Swede will be out for some time.
Gerrard said via Sky Sports News: “He has had surgery in the last 24-48 hours to fix an issue that they spotted when they went inside to have a look so he will be missing for the foreseeable future.”
The news will come as a huge blow for Rangers. Helander has been one of the Scottish side’s best performing players over the past 12 months, and this injury update is the last thing the Gers will want ahead of the start of their European campaign.
The £3.5m defender will be a miss for Rangers. And on social media, supporters are already fuming that Helander will miss the next few months of the season due to injury.
