Feyenoord manager Arne Slot has said Reiss Nelson might not have a future at Arsenal based on his role in training.
Speaking to Voetbal Primeur after the Dutch side’s UEFA Europa Conference League opener, the Feyenoord coach elaborated on his comments earlier on the week on Nelson and training at Arsenal.
Speaking to RTV Rijnmond, Slot said that Nelson wasn’t used to the intensity of training after joining Feyenoord on loan. However, the Feyenoord coach has now expanded on what he meant.
Slot told reporters last night: “I’m not saying anything about how Arsenal train; I’m saying something about how substitute player Reiss Nelson, who didn’t have much of a future there, trained.
The Feyenoord coach later added: “He was very often in the team that had to imitate the opponent. He didn’t actually play any matches. Now he is with a team that is busy and where he is seen as a player who has to play a lot. So that combination has caused him to have some overload problems.”
Indeed, it is an interesting assessment of Nelson’s time at Arsenal in recent years.

The winger hardly featured for the Gunners in the 2020/21 season. And this loan spell with Feyenoord could be key to the youngster making the next step in his development.
If Slot’s words are true, then we can expect to see Nelson quite a bit this season for Feyenoord. And for the Arsenal attacker, regular first-team minutes will do him the world of good after his career had stalled over the past season.
