The rivalry between Arsenal and Tottenham is one of the biggest and most fierce in England, and the derby will take an unexpected twist this week.

With Tottenham taking part in the UEFA Europa Conference League, the white side of north London will overtake Arsenal in the European coefficient rankings for the first time in 29 years as per the Daily Mail.

With the Gunners not competing at all in Europe this season, Mikel Arteta’s side have no way of collecting any UEFA coefficient points. Moreover, Spurs occupy the place below Arsenal in the current standings.

This means that Tottenham are guaranteed to leapfrog Arsenal this season. Spurs will kick off their Europa Conference League campaign this week away to Stade Rennais.

Indeed, it will be the first time Tottenham will rank higher than Arsenal in Europe since the Premier League was established. The Gunners have not competed in the UEFA Champions League since 2016.

And with the red side of north London finishing eighth last season, Arsenal will be without European football for the first time in 26 years.
