Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga has said on Stadium Astro that he is looking forward to facing Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo.
Tanganga, who can play as a central defender or as a right-back, played against Ronaldo during a pre-season game when the Portugal international forward was at Juventus.
The 22-year-old has said that Ronaldo was his idol growing up, and the English youngster is relishing the prospect of facing the 36-year-old again this season.
Ronaldo returned to United from Juventus in the summer transfer window.
Tanganga said on Stadium Astro: “To be fair, when I was first watching football, it was Ronaldo. Cristiano Ronaldo was my idol.”
The Spurs defender added: “I have played against him before when we went on a pre-season tour against Juventus.
“Seeing him in the tunnel was surreal. I will never get over it. If I ever see him again when he plays for United, I am a big fan of him.”
Tanganga continued: “It would be an amazing thing to see him again.”
Ronaldo scored two goals on his second debut for United this past weekend, as the Red Devils won against Newcastle United at Old Trafford.
The former Real Madrid star may be 36 now, but he is still a force to be reckoned with.
Tanganga will have to be at his best if he faces Ronaldo this season.
The 22-year-old was sent off for two bookable offences against Crystal Palace in the Premier League this past weekend.
The youngster simply cannot make that mistake against Ronaldo and United.
While United are aiming to win the Premier League title this season, Tottenham are looking to finish in the top four under head coach Nuno.
