Red Bull Salzburg starlet Karim Adeyemi should move to the Premier League and Liverpool rather than seal a return to German giants Bayern Munich, SpVgg Unterhaching president Manfred Schwabl has told Sport1.
Red Bull really does give you wings, it seems.
Since the start of 2020, Erling Haaland, Patson Daka, Hwang Hee-chan, Dominik Szoboszlai and Takumi Minamino have all flown the Salzburg nest, joining some of Europe’s biggest clubs for a combined fee in the region of £80 million.
And, after becoming the youngest goalscorer for the German national team since a baby-faced Mario Gotze a decade ago, you’d get short odds on Adeyemi being the next off the Salzburg production line.
Is Karim Adeyemi heading to Liverpool?
According to BILD, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are interested in a prolific forward who came close to putting pen to paper with Chelsea in 2018.
Barcelona are also reported to be interested, as are a Bayern Munich side that lost Adeyemi to Unterhaching nine years ago following a breakdown in negotiations over his long-term future in Bavaria.
“German football would be well advised to bring him back,” says Schwabl, who has an excellent relationship with a striker who has scored eight times in nine games for club and country this season.
“(But) if he came back to Germany, it would only be an intermediate step. In the long run, he’s a player for England.
“He is quick and ready for duels. You have already seen that against Armenia (Adeyemi scored his first Germany goal in a 6-0 World Cup-qualifying victory last week).
“He’ll score goals. In the long run, the island (Britain) will be his home.”
According to Goal, Liverpool have been watching Adeyemi since 2018. Make no mistake, a player who would have cost them a minimal fee then would be a lot more expensive these days.
Then again, scoring goals week in, week out will do that to your price tag.
BILD believes Salzburg want about £17 million. A lot of money for a 19-year-old with just one season of regular, top-flight football under his belt.
However, if Adeyemi proves to be even half as talented as record-breaking wrecking ball Erling Haaland, that £17 million fee will resemble a bargain before long.
