Liverpool have been linked with Youri Tielemans in recent months, but their hopes of signing him have been made complicated by Manchester United.

The Reds allowed Gini Wijnaldum to leave the club on a free transfer this summer, but didn’t end up replacing him in midfield.

The likes of Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Curtis Jones will now have to step up, and Liverpool will be primed for a signing next summer if they don’t impress.

One alleged target is Leicester City star Tielemans, with The Telegraph reporting in July that Jurgen Klopp fancied bringing him to Anfield.

At the time though, Liverpool weren’t prepared to pay the money required to sign the Belgian. If deals for Virgil van Dijk and Alisson are anything to go by, Liverpool are prepared to wait for their preferred target.

That could well be Tielemans next summer, but their pursuit has been somewhat complicated by new interest from rivals United.

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Tielemans is a prime target for Manchester United next summer as they prepare to sign a new central midfielder.

Romano believes that United will be making a push for Tielemans, but there is also interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Leicester want to keep Tielemans, but it looks like Europe’s elite are now queueing up for the Belgian’s signature.

Liverpool don’t love bidding wars, but if they want to land Tielemans for Klopp, they may have to go toe-to-toe with their bitter rivals.
