Scotland manager Steve Clarke has confirmed Nathan Patterson has returned to Rangers early after picking up an injury in the 1-0 win over Moldova on Saturday, as the Gers sweat over the 19-year-old’s fitness.
Patterson was one of three players to withdraw from the squad, joining Norwich City midfielder Kenny McLean and Newcastle’s Ryan Fraser in returning to their clubs.

The three were just some of the many Scotland players nursing injuries since Saturday as Hibs right-back Paul McGinn joins the side to face Austria tomorrow night.
After impressing on Saturday, Patterson’s absence will also be a blow for the national team as Clarke spoke following the trio’s exit, saying: “Nathan Patterson and Kenny McLean have injuries from the game and Ryan Fraser has picked up a knock in training.
“I had seven or eight doubts after the game on Saturday so losing three is not the worst outcome.
“It’s very difficult to call players in because of all the Covid stipulations so we’re grateful to Paul for making himself available. He’s a good addition.”
Scotland’s hopes of reaching next year’s World Cup hang by a thread and losing the likes of Patterson is a big blow for Clarke’s side.
Patterson returning to Rangers is likely to see a return to the side for Stephen O’Donnell – while Rangers look at getting Patterson fit for the weekend clash with St. Johnstone.

With Rangers teammate Filip Helander also picking up an injury on international duty, the Light Blues will be hoping neither misses any significant game time.
Steven Gerrard’s side get their Europa League campaign underway next week and the Rangers boss will want both Patterson and Helander available for the clash with Lyon.
