Ainsley Maitland-Niles will meet with Mikel Arteta later today to discuss his future with Arsenal after the club rejected an offer from Everton.
According to the Athletic, the 24-year-old midfielder will request to the Gunners boss that he wants to leave the north London side. Maitland-Niles was subject to an offer from Everton earlier in the week.
However, Arsenal said no to the deal. Despite having no real shot of playing regular football this season, Arsenal are keen to retain Maitland-Niles this window.
The versatile Hale End academy product has not started a single game for the Gunners this season.
Moreover, the midfielder, who earns a reported £52,000-a-week at the club, was sent out on loan last season to West Bromwich Albion. Maitland-Niles played more minutes at the Hawthorns than he did at Arsenal since the arrival of Arteta.
With Maitland-Niles taking to Instagram to vent his frustration at not being allowed to leave the club, it appears that the relationship between player and club is fracturing beyond repair.

The Mirror also report that the midfielder will no longer train with the first team.
With just under 12 hours of the window left to go, Maitland-Niles and most Arsenal fans will be hoping that the midfielder can be granted a transfer away from the Emirates Stadium.
