Darragh MacAnthony has said on Sky Sports News (8:43pm, August 31, 2021) that Leeds United have done a great piece of business by signing Daniel James from Manchester United on summer transfer deadline day.

What’s the story?

Earlier today, Leeds announced on their official website that they have signed James from Premier League rivals United.

The 23-year-old Wales international winger has put pen to paper on a five-year contract with the Whites.

Darragh MacAnthony’s verdict

Peterborough United owner MacAnthony has said that James is a brilliant signing for Leeds and has backed the youngster to be a massive success under head coach Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road.

MacAnthony said on Sky Sports News (8:43pm, August 31, 2021): “James is a Bielsa signing. I think he is perfect for Leeds.

“Bielsa will get the best out of him. He will have a phenomenal time at Leeds, in my opinion.

“I think he is made for the way Leeds play, his intensity and his pace. Terrific signing. Great business.”

Former Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford has also given his take on Twitter on James joining the Whites, as you can see below.

Would Daniel James succeed at Leeds?

Leeds actually wanted to sign James when he was at Swansea City, as the Whites acknowledged in their statement today.

Bielsa clearly likes the youngster, who must be eager to show the Elland Road faithful what he is capable of.

Leeds are strong in the wide areas.

Raphinha and Jack Harrison are brilliant wingers, and Rodrigo can also play out wide.

This means that James will have to work hard to get into the team.

Under Bielsa’s guidance, the Wales international can certainly take his game to another level, and continue to progress and develop as a footballer.
