According to the Express, Edu’s job as Technical Director at Arsenal is under pressure after a series of underwhelming transfer activity.
What’s the story?
Well, it sounds as if the Gunners are losing patience with the Brazilian.
As the Express state, Arsenal have spent over £300m since Edu was appointed, but have worryingly recouped just £80m in player sales.
Interestingly, the article mentions that another ex-Arsenal star in Marc Overmars could replace Edu – so too could Michael Emenalo, formerly Technical Director at Chelsea.
Ralf Rangnick is also an option, a man who is believed to have inspired Jürgen Klopp’s gegenpressing style of football.
Edu was, in fact, Arsenal’s first ever Technical Director. Sadly, despite knowing the club well, he has made a number of strange decisions.
Most significantly, Arsenal have regressed since he was appointed, which speaks volumes as to how effective his work has been.
What has Edu done at Arsenal?

To give him his credit, Edu has had some success. Gabriel Magalhães has impressed, so too has Albert Sambi Lokonga, who was a decent find from the Belgian Pro League.
However, there have been far too many questionable decisions.
Above all, the signing of Willian. The Brazilian was handed a contract worth £220,000-a-week, only to score one goal in 37 appearances.
Furthermore, it was baffling to see Edu spend £27m on an 18-year-old centre-back in William Saliba in 2019, only for Mikel Arteta to freeze him out.

The Frenchman, now 20, is yet to make a competitive appearance for Arsenal.
Strangely, while Saliba has been out developing elsewhere, Edu then paid £50m to sign Ben White from Brighton and add more competition for the wonderkid back in north London.
By all accounts, it wouldn’t be the worst thing if Edu left Arsenal.
