Emiliano Martinez has congratulated Granit Xhaka on Instagram after he signed a new contract with Arsenal.
The 28-year-old posted on Instagram that he is ‘proud’ to have extended his stay in North London.
Villa goalkeeper Martinez simply responded with a two-word message: “Congratulations brother.”
Whilst the likes of Mat Ryan, Xherdan Shaqiri and Reiss Nelson sent similar messages to the combative midfielder.
Before the start of Euro 2020, it seemed very different for Xhaka, who was looking to head for the exit door.
With Jose Mourinho taking the reigns in Roma, he wanted to sign the Arsenal man and he was even commenting on his social media pages as a hint of wanting to sign him.
But given that the Italian club didn’t stump up the money for Xhaka, he then signed a new deal.
It perhaps shows the mess Arsenal are in and how they go from wanting to sell Xhaka to him then leading them out for the new Premier League season.
For some, it’s perhaps a surprise that Xhaka is still at the club given everything he has been through.
From that infamous moment against Crystal Palace to the rumours of him leaving this summer.
Many Arsenal fans will be questioning where the Xhaka of Switzerland is because if he turns up in the Premier League then they have a top-quality player on their hands.
But they have some little of him and now there is huge pressure on his shoulders and even bigger pressure on Mikel Arteta’s.
If things continue in this vein for the Spanish coach then he’s not going to be in the job for much longer.
