Tottenham Hotspur are chasing another midfield addition before the transfer deadline, and Cagliari ace Nahitan Nandez appears to be a target.
La Nuova Sardegna reported over the weekend that Fabio Paratici has struck an agreement with Cagliari to bring Nandez to North London.
That report claimed that Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini wanted the £31million release clause in Nandez’s contract, but Tottenham had no intention of paying that.
Instead, Paratici wants to take Nandez on loan for the year at a price of £8.6million, then sign the Uruguayan permanently for around £17million next summer.
The deal hasn’t been done yet, and Tottenham have a week to sort out the issues and bring Nandez to the Premier League.
For now, Nandez is still at Cagliari’s disposal, and he started in Monday’s 2-2 draw against Spezia with boss Leonardo Semplici happy to keep using him.

Tuttomercatoweb reacted to Nandez’s performance, rating him at a 7/10 despite playing as a right-sided wing back rather than in midfield.
The rating added that it’s clear Nandez ‘has higher qualities’ than his teammates, and that losing him would almost be tragedy for Cagliari.
That’s all encouraging from a Tottenham perspective, with Paratici potentially closing in on a strong signing, but there is work to be done.
