Nuno Espirito Santo has delivered a negative injury update on Tottenham Hotspur’s Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The USA international is suddenly back in the picture at Spurs with regards to the senior squad.

Nuno started the 23-year-old defender in their Europa Conference League defeat away to Pacos de Ferreira on Thursday night.

But Carter-Vickers, making his first competitive appearance for Tottenham since 2017, came off late on with an ankle problem.

And the Portuguese boss has confirmed that it’s an ‘ugly’ issue and one that isn’t looking very promising for the big centre-back.

He told the club’s official website ahead of facing Wolverhampton Wanderers this afternoon: “Cameron had an ugly injury, twisted his ankle and it doesn’t look good. That’s the worst thing that can happen to us, when you lose a player.”

Transfer blow

This is a bigger blow for Tottenham than it seems.

While it’s clear that Carter-Vickers wasn’t going to challenge Cristian Romero or Davinson Sanchez for a starting spot, his injury could prove costly in other areas.

The player has been linked with a move away from North London and there’s been reports that the Lilywhites wanted £5 million for him.

But going by Nuno’s comments, Carter-Vickers is going absolutely nowhere.
