Arsenal may yet wind up getting rid of Willian after all.
The Brazilian has flopped big time since joining Arsenal on a Bosman move last summer.
But a switch to Inter Miami broke down earlier in the transfer window over his wage demands and unfortunately for the Gunners, there isn’t much speculation about many – if any – more clubs wanting to sign the former Chelsea winger.
However, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed on Twitter this afternoon that the North Londoners remain ‘hopeful’ of offloading the player, who has been trying to leave since May.
Double boost
This is a double piece of good news for Arsenal.
Not only is there a genuine chance that Willian could leave, but that the player wants it too is very positive.
The last thing that the Emirates Stadium side needs is another Mesut Ozil situation, a big-earning player under no pressure to go anywhere.
And although Willian isn’t on £350,000 per week like Ozil, he’s still taking home £220,000 per week [The Sun] and it can only be a good thing.
Mikel Arteta himself admitted last week that the player just hasn’t delivered in North London and the sooner a departure is done, the better.
