This is a big summer for Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta’s side finished eighth in the Premier League table last season but a good transfer window could solve a lot of their problems.
It’s no secret that Arsenal need players but, by the same token, Arteta and Edu also need to get rid of a few – and Willian is one who probably needs to go.
Big earner
Despite the fact he was free, the 32-year-old Brazilian winger is a huge earner in North London and takes home £220,000 per week [The Sun].
And yet, one goal in 37 games across all competitions was a fairly dismal return for the former Chelsea winger in his first season at the Emirates Stadium.
Is he earning his money? In short, no. But there was a bit of encouragement reported earlier in the summer that Arsenal were ready to offload the player after only a year.
There was speculation about a move to David Beckham’s Inter Miami, but Willian’s wage demands of £167,000 per week – twice the amount Gonzalo Higuain is earning – has led to the MLS side walking away from negotiations, according to The Sun.
Just like with Mesut Ozil, the Gunners are stuck with another aging, big-money player who the current regime has no use for.
Here’s how some Arsenal fans reacted to the collapse of the Inter Miami switch:
