Some West Ham United fans have reacted to The Sun’s report about Kurt Zouma.
What’s the story?
According to the Guardian, the club have reignited their interest in the Chelsea centre-half. It comes after the club opted out of a £14m move for Nikola Milenkovic.
However, despite interest in the 26-year-old, his wages remain a sticking point for the east Londoners.
Zouma is demanding £120k-per-week from keen clubs. The player currently earns just £65k-per-week, according to the Sun.
A move away from Stamford Bridge comes amid Chelsea’s move for Jules Kounde. The Blues have allegedly agreed on a deal to sign the centre-back from Sevilla.
West Ham should not bow to pressure
Make no mistake, signing a central defender is a key for David Moyes.
However, every club goes into the transfer window with a plan. It would be foolish of West Ham to deviate from that as Zouma reportedly demands £120k-per-week.
Handing the Frenchman such a staggering wage would disrupt the feeling in West Ham’s dressing room.
Andriy Yarmolenko is currently the highest earner at £115k-per-week, according to Spotrac. Zouma would comfortably become the highest earner if the Irons caved to his demands.
It would leave other players wondering if they should be paid more, therefore upsetting the established order.
Here is how some West Ham fans reacted to the latest report…
To be fair 120k isn’t bad, especially for a proven premier league player who has the potential to be one of our main players, also Rice would need a next contract making him the highest earner.— Krispy (@KieranCOYI) August 17, 2021
£120k in this day and age isn't extortionate let's be honest 🤷♂️ you've got players like Grealish being bought for 100m and on far more of a piss take wage given his ability and if Moysey really thinks Zouma improves the team then I don't see an issue with that wage— ⚒️ Rhys ⚒️ (@rhysj39) August 17, 2021
Thing is in the top tier of the PL 120k a week isn’t a huge wage anymore— West Ham (A)Way (@WESTHAM_AWAY) August 17, 2021
I don’t either when you consider yarma is on £100k a week to play for the U23s. He’s a top class CB that massively improves us.— dave23bravo (@DavidHoughton82) August 17, 2021
so he should take a pay cut at 26?— T (@Iam_toluu) August 17, 2021
