Tottenham Hotspur may have held out hope that Sevilla defender Jules Kounde would sign this summer – but he now looks set for Chelsea.
Tottenham have been pursuing defensive reinforcements this summer and Kounde has become a prime target for Fabio Paratici.
Earlier this month, Gianluca Di Marzio claimed that Tottenham had agreed a deal with Sevilla for Kounde, sending £25.5million plus Davinson Sanchez.
However, Kounde allegedly rejected the move, seemingly waiting for a Champions League move instead.
Football.London then added that Kounde is open to joining Tottenham as long as Real Madrid don’t make a move to sign him this summer – but nobody accounted for Chelsea.
Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter to claim that Kounde has agreed terms to sign for Chelsea until 2026, and the Blues are now in advanced talks over a fee and the structure of the deal.
The Frenchman has become Chelsea’s top centre back target, and they are now moving to ensure that Tottenham have no chance of signing him.
At just 22, Kounde should have a huge future ahead of him, and he can now join French international teammate N’Golo Kante at Stamford Bridge.
Missing out on Kounde will sting for Tottenham, even more so if he ends up signing for London rivals Chelsea.
