Some Arsenal fans on Twitter believe that a move for Martin Odegaard is in even more doubt after a development regarding Dani Ceballos.

Arsenal had both Real Madrid midfielders on loan at the Emirates Stadium last season.

But there’s only interest from the Gunners’ side in bringing Odegaard back on a permanent basis.

The Norway international has been heavily linked with a return to North London and ESPN reported last week that the Spanish giants would sell if the player himself pushed for a move.

But it’s possible that Real will now look to keep Odegaard, after an injury update on Ceballos, who had two year-long spells at Arsenal.

The club revealed that the Spain international had suffered a ‘complete tear‘ of his ankle ligaments and although there is no timeframe on his return, it looks likely that he won’t be back before the transfer window shuts.

And some Arsenal fans believe that Ceballos’s injury means that Odegaard will now not be sold.

Mess

Arsenal are a bit of a mess right now, it has to be said.

Yes they’re linked to a lot of midfielders – Houssem Aouar and James Maddison being a couple more – but at the moment they’re no closer to signing anybody.

Mikel Arteta desperately needs a creative spark to arrive between now and the window closing.

And if Odegaard is off the table, which seems very likely now, it puts extra pressure on Arteta and Edu completing a deal for one of Aouar or Maddison.

And with the latter valued at £60 million by Leicester City, the Lyon midfielder, available for £20 million, seems like the best option, particularly given how close he was to joining Arsenal last summer.

Arteta’s side kick off their Premier League campaign away to Brentford on Friday.
