Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac has agreed to a three-year deal with Fenerbahce, but the Turkish giants don’t want to pay the Gunners a transfer fee.
According to Sporx, the Istanbul-based club have reached an agreement in principle with the Bosnian international.
However, Fenerbahce can’t afford a transfer fee with Arsenal to complete the transfer for Kolasinac. But, as per the report, the club could terminate the defender’s contract.
The left-back, who earns a reported £100,000-a-week, has just one year left on his current deal at the Emirates. And Kolasinac is one of many players who Arsenal will allow to leave the club this summer.
The 28-year-old defender spent half of last season on loan with Schalke. Though with the German side being relegated from the Bundesliga, the club didn’t have the finances needed this summer to sign Kolasinac on a permanent deal.
Whilst Arsenal might be reluctant to allow Kolasinac to leave for free this summer, this situation is one of the rare times that terminating a player’s contract might just be the best possible solution.
Indeed, the defender joined Arsenal in 2017 on a free transfer. Although it would be handy for the Gunners to earn some sort of profit from Fenerhace for Kolasinac, allowing him to walk for nothing would be more a financial positive than a hindrance
After all, a £100,000-a-week off the payroll is a huge sum of money for any club, and this could allow Arsenal to head back into the market to sign a player the squad desperately need, such as a creative midfielder.
