Zenit St Petersburg are launching a £21.5million move to beat Leeds United to the signing of Hertha Berlin attacker Matheus Cunha.
That’s according to Goal, who claim that Zenit intend to pay around €25million having been impressed with him at the Olympic Games in Japan.
Zenit may be putting money on the table, but it’s stated that Cunha would prefer a move to Spain or England, where there is interest in his signature.
A move to Russia isn’t being ruled out by Cunha though, and Zenit have made contact with Hertha to try and thrash out a deal.
This should spark Leeds into life given that they want to sign Cunha according to reports from Sky Germany and Calciomercato in May.
UOL in Brazil added in June that Leeds had stepped up talks to sign Cunha, but no deal has been done to pair him up with fellow Brazilian Raphinha.

Fans raved about Cunha’s display for Brazil against Germany at the Olympics, and Leeds fans may well be hoping that Victor Orta presses ahead with a move.
With Zenit now in the mix – and able to offer Champions League football – Leeds’ pursuit of Cunha is now under real threat.
