Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta reportedly wants to bring Leicester City attacking midfielder James Maddison to the Emirates Stadium.
90min reported this month that Arsenal want to sign Maddison, and that his club, Leicester, are open to selling him.
Then last week, Football.London claimed that Arsenal have ‘sounded out the possibility of signing the 24-year-old through intermediaries’.
Leicester are reportedly asking for £60 million for the England international playmaker.
Emile Smith Rowe is the only senior attacking midfielder in the Arsenal squad at the moment.
It is not clear what is going to happen with Real Madrid attacking midfielder Martin Odegaard.
The Norway international spent the second half of last season on loan at the Gunners from Madrid.
Maddison is a very good playmaker who would make Arsenal better.
The Leicester star scored eight goals and gave five assists in the Premier League last season.
And now, the 24-year-old has been dropped from the Leicester squad.
Leicester are playing against Queens Park Rangers in a pre-season friendly match this afternoon.
Maddison has not been included in the squad.
It is not clear if the attacker is injured.
Leicester will take on Manchester City in the FA Community Shield next weekend.
It will be interesting to see why Maddison has been left out today. Perhaps Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers will give an explanation soon.
