Reported Arsenal target Martin Odegaard was in action for Real Madrid against Rangers at Ibrox on Sunday, and his performance has been slammed in the Spanish press.
It was a pre-season friendly match between Rangers and Madrid, and Odegaard, who is reportedly wanted by Arsenal for a return to the Emirates Stadium, was in action for Los Blancos.
Odegaard started for Madrid, who lost the friendly 2-1, and AS’s editor-in-chief, Tomas Roncero, was far from impressed by the performance of the 22-year-old attacking midfielder.
Roncero wrote in AS about Odegaard: “Odegaard is the eternal promise. Surrounded by homegrown players, he should have said, ‘Here I am’.
“What is there to do? Like at Arsenal, do they all play for him? Martin, you are in Madrid. Wake up.”
Madrid were very disappointing against Scottish Premiership champions Rangers yesterday.
Odegaard was far from his best, but the youngster did create a good chance for Rodrygo in the eighth minute when he drove with the ball from inside his own half.
Odegaard spent the second half of last season on loan at Arsenal from Madrid.
Well-known and well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano said on The Arsenal Lounge last week that Arsenal remain keen on bringing back the Norway international playmaker.
If Madrid decide to let Odegaard leave again this summer, then Arsenal are “ready to jump at the deal”, according to Romano.
Odegaard scored one goal and gave two assists in nine Premier League starts and scored one goal in five Europa League starts for Arsenal during his loan spell.
