Arsenal defender Cedric Soares may not only have a future at the club, but could start the season as first-choice right back.

That’s according to Football.London, who claim that Cedric is really impressing Arsenal coaches with his work this pre-season.

Mikel Arteta now has Cedric in the frame to start the new season as Arsenal’s first-choice right back in a quite remarkable turnaround.

Cedric only played 10 Premier League games, starting just eight. He only played 44 minutes of league action from the end of March onwards.

The 29-year-old looked like simply being cover at right back, but with Hector Bellerin’s future still not settled, Cedric could start against Brentford on August 13th.

Cedric was praised as ‘fantastic’ by Gilberto Silva earlier this year, but hasn’t had many chances to show it.

It now looks like Arteta is ready to give Cedric another chance, and with just three weeks to go until the start of the season, it doesn’t seem that there is much competition.

Arsenal fans may not want Cedric to start the new season in the starting lineup, and may still hope for a new signing to arrive in that area before facing Brentford.

For now though, it looks like being the Portuguese ace’s position to lose.
