Celtic now want to bring Manchester City defender Yan Couto to the club this summer – but face competition from clubs in Portugal.

That’s according to Sky Sports, who claim that Celtic want to take Couto on loan for the season to help solve their right back issues.

Jonjoe Kenny’s loan spell is over, and Anthony Ralston simply isn’t good enough to be a regular starter for the Bhoys.

A number of options have been linked with moves to Parkhead, and Couto is now believed to be the latest name on Celtic’s wish list.

Couto, 19, joined City from Coritiba in 2020, but was loaned straight out to sister club Girona for first-team experience.

Couto played 22 times in Spain’s second tier, bagging one goal and four assists in a superb attacking campaign.

City may now want to see him take a step up in his development, and heading to Celtic would absolutely represent an upgrade for Couto as he attempts to prove he can play Premier League football in the future.

Couto was highly rated in Brazil, and even likened to Dani Alves by South American football analyst Tim Vickery, suggesting that he can make a real impact going forward.

With Celtic also pursuing City defender Ko Itakura, the Bhoys may hope for a favour or two from the Premier League champions.
