Tottenham Hotspur are set to make their first bid for Southampton striker Danny Ings in the hope of pairing him up with Harry Kane.

That’s according to Eurosport, who state that Southampton are bracing themselves for a first bid from Tottenham in the new future.

However, Tottenham plan to offer a deal lower than the £20million Southampton want, starting low before eventually going higher – just as they did for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg last summer.

Ings allegedly wants to leave Southampton and isn’t signing a new deal. His current contract expires in 2022 and he can walk away for free in less than a year.

That’s why Tottenham seemingly don’t want to pay big money for Ings, even though he is described as being their ‘top target’ in attack.

Ings, 28, has hit 34 goals across his last two Premier League campaigns.

Imagine that kind of goal threat working alongside Harry Kane and Son Heung-min? Tottenham would have so many threats in the final third.

That does of course rely on Kane staying at Tottenham, but The Telegraph did report last week that new boss Nuno Espirito Santo wants to play Kane and Ings together in a two-man attack.

With a bid on the way, Southampton’s resolve will be tested. Tottenham won last summer by signing Hojbjerg, and we’ll now see if they can manage it again.
