Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has raved about Nuno Tavares for his performance against Steven Gerrard’s Rangers at Ibrox, as quoted on the club’s official website.
Tavares has joined Arsenal from Benfica in the summer transfer window.
The 21-year-old left-back started for the Gunners in their pre-season friendly against Rangers at Ibrox yesterday.
The Portuguese youngster scored one of the goals in the 2-2 draw with his right foot.
Arsenal manager Arteta has spoken highly of the youngster.
Arteta told Arsenal’s official website about Tavares: “A great debut with his right foot as well!
“He’s only been with us a few days but you can already see his qualities, his physicality and then the quality on the ball that he has. He’s integrating with the lads really well, so it’s a good start.”

Impressive display
Tavares has been signed as a back-up to Kieran Tierney.
However, based on the Portuguese’s display against Rangers yesterday, it seems that the 21-year-old could actually give the former Celtic star genuine competition.
The youngster took his goal very well and knew exactly what he was doing with his shot.

There was no fluke about it.
Tavares made some very good runs forward and was defensively strong as well, although he did not really face much of a threat.
Of course, Tierney is and will be the first-choice left-back at Arsenal, but Tavares is only 21 and can only get better in the coming years.
Arsenal could have signed a gem in the 21-year-old.
