Newcastle United defensive midfielder Isaac Hayden has praised Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka on Twitter.

Saka stepped up to take what proved to be the decisive penalty during England’s defeat to Italy in the Euro 2020 final at Wembley Stadium last night.

The match ended 1-1 after extra time, and Italy won it 3-2 on penalties in London.

It was Arsenal winger Saka whose failure to convert his spot kick confirmed Italy as the champions of Europe.

Newcastle midfielder Hayden has praised Saka for his character and personality.

Saka is only 19, yet the Arsenal winger was taking a penalty in the final of the European Championship in front of over 60,000 fans.

It shows the teenager’s mentality, character and ability to cope with pressure.

How many 19-year-olds can do what Saka did last night?

Hayden and Saka are club rivals, but it is very encouraging to see the Newcastle midfielder put that aside and support the Arsenal winger.

The teenager, who can also play in midfield or as a left-back, did well for Arsenal last season.

The Arsenal no.7 made 30 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League last season.

Saka scored five goals and gave three assists in those games.

The youngster also scored two goals and gave three assists in nine Europa League matches.
