Rio Ferdinand and Alan Shearer hailed Tottenham-linked Leonardo Spinazzola and his ‘magnificent’ tournament at Euro 2020, as they told Match of the Day.

Italy are in the final of Euro 2020, with Spinazzola playing a huge role during their road to Wembley despite suffering a tournament-ending injury against Belgium.

The Express did report that Spurs have shown interest in the flying full. back.

But with Jose Mourinho, his Roma boss, confirming that he will be out of action for ‘a few months’ after rupturing his Achilles then that interest might need to be put on hold for now.

Nonetheless, Ferdinand first lauded the creative talent in Spinazzola’s legs, before Shearer also added his thoughts on the player.

“The most creative player for Italy,” said Ferdinand. “You see the stats, dribbles and open-play crosses, he’s first in the team.

“He was the outlet. We watched him here. He was fantastic. A right-footed player playing on the left. Everything positive. It came through his side. He’s going to be a huge, huge miss.”

“It’s a terrible injury for him and Italy,” said Shearer. “We wish him the best because he was having a magnificent tournament. Almost every game we were talking about him in glowing terms.”

If England reach the Euro 2020 final then they will be glad that a player like Spinazzola won’t feature.

The Three Lions take on Denmark in their semi-final showdown tonight, as they look to book their place in a final of a major tournament for the first time in over 50 years.

There’s something about left-sided players at Euro 2020 because, along with Spinazzola, England’s very own left-back is also thriving.

Luke Shaw has been one of the players of the tournament and he will be hoping to add to his three assists against the Dane’s.
