Jose Mourinho has raved about reported Tottenham Hotspur target Leonardo Spinazzola on talkSPORT.

The AS Roma manager has said that Spinazzola has been incredible for Italy at Euro 2020.

The former Tottenham boss has added that the left-back will be out of action for months due to the Achilles injury he suffered during Italy’s win against Belgium in the Euro 2020 quarter-finals.

The Express reported last month that Tottenham are interested in Spinazzola.

We covered the report here on HITC Sport.

Mourinho said about Spinazzola on talkSPORT, as transcribed by France24: “It’s a terrible loss for Italy, but imagine how terrible it is for me who won’t have him for about six months.

“(Chelsea’s) Emerson Palmieri is a good player, with experience. But Spinazzola was playing in an incredible way.”

No summer transfer to Tottenham Hotspur?

Spinazzola being out for months clearly puts an end to any suggestion that the AS Roma left-back could be on his way to Tottenham.

Yes, the 28-year-old is a very good left-back who is actually right-footed, but Spurs are not going to sign a player who may not be back to his best until 2022-23.

It can take a while for players coming back from long-term injuries to recover their best form.

The way Mourinho speaks about Spinazzola also suggests that he was never going to sell the left-back this summer.

Why would the Portuguese take charge of Roma only to sell one of the best players in the squad?

And certainly not to Tottenham.

After all, Spurs sacked the Portuguese in April just days before the Carabao Cup final.
