According to le10sport, Arsenal have submitted a bid to Lyon for Houssem Aouar, and the deal is progressing well between both parties.

What’s the story?

Well, the Gunners tried hard to sign the 23-year-old last summer.

Mikel Arteta was planning a significant bid, and believed it was going to be accepted in the summer of 2020.

However, Jean-Michel Aulas wasn’t interested in letting his club’s talisman leave easily, and eventually ensured a deal collapsed.

Now, Lyon are said to be happy to sell Aouar for a sum in the range of €20 million – €25 million (£17 million – £21 million).

Le10sport do not disclose how much Arsenal have bid. However, they believe it isn’t too far away from Lyon’s asking price.

Paris Saint-Germain are also interested, but as aforesaid, talks between Arsenal and Lyon and progressing well.

Will Liverpool and Jürgen Klopp react?

Liverpool are also said to be interested in the Frenchman.

Jürgen Klopp lost Gini Wijnaldum to Paris Saint-Germain this summer, so he could be on the lookout for the Dutchman’s replacement.

After le10sport‘s revelation, it will be interesting to see if the Reds react and also submit a bid for Aouar’s services.

After all, if Liverpool did decide to make an offer, you would feel it puts them in the driving seat.

Yes, Arsenal have done plenty of groundwork on this target.

However, Liverpool can offer Champions League football and a much greater chance of success at Anfield.

That could swing Aouar towards Merseyside rather than north London.

In this respect, Edu must not twiddle his thumbs during negotiations.

This deal needs to be done sharply, especially with PSG also keen.
