Tottenham Hotspur’s new Managing Director of Football, Fabio Paratici, has raved about Spurs-linked goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma on Gianluca Di Marzio’s official website.

Paratici has said that Donnarumma is the best young player in the world at the moment.

The Tottenham official has also said that he did not try to bring the former AC Milan goalkeeper to the North London club.

Paris Saint-Germain transfer

The Italy international has left Milan after his contract at the Italian club expired at the end of last season.

Well-known and well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed on Twitter that Donnarumma will sign for PSG this month.

Foot Mercato reported last month that the young goalkeeper will earn €12 million (£10.29m) per year as salary at PSG (£200,000 per week).

Tottenham Hotspur claims

Sky Italia reported last month interest from Spurs in Donnarumma.

It was reported that Paratici himself was trying to get a deal done.

We covered the report here on HITC Sport.

What Fabio Paratici says

Paratici said about Donnarumma on Gianluca Di Marzio’s official website: “Would I have taken Donnarumma to Juventus? I am the sporting director of Tottenham.

“He is a very good goalkeeper, at the moment the best young player in the world. Here in England I have never tried to take him.”

Tottenham transfer was always unlikely

Even with Paratici, it was always going to be hard for Tottenham.

Spurs will not play in the Champions League next season and will not challenge for the Premier League title.

PSG are regulars in Europe’s premier club competition and also clinch the Ligue 1 title on a consistent basis (they could not last season).

Moreover, Spurs would not have been able to – or willing to – pay Donnarumma the £200,000-a-week salary that PSG are reportedly paying.
