According to Sky Italia, Fabio Paratici made one final attempt to lure Gianluigi Donnarumma to Tottenham for absolutely nothing on Monday.

Paratici hasn’t actually started his job yet; he is expected to be appointed as Tottenham’s new director of football very soon.

The former Juventus man is already planning Tottenham’s summer according to Football.London’s Alasdair Gold, and that may have included a move for free agent Donnarumma, whose AC Milan contract expires this month.

Donnarumma to Tottenham rumours started last week

Tuttosport suggested that Tottenham would be keen to sign Donnarumma on a free transfer if Paratici and Antonio Conte arrived.

Conte’s move fell through, but that seemingly didn’t stop Paratici from still attempting an ambitious move.

How did Paratici attempt to strike a deal?

It’s stated that mere hours before Donnarumma agreed to join Paris Saint-Germain, Paratici desperately tried to convince the goalkeeper to join Tottenham instead.

That seemingly didn’t work, with Donnarumma described as being ‘one step away’ from signing for PSG under ex-Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.

What have Tottenham missed out on?

An heir to Hugo Lloris.

The Frenchman is 34 now, and few could blame Spurs if they were starting to look at younger goalkeepers to eventually replace Lloris.

It feels like Donnarumma has been around forever, but he’s still only 22 and could have been Tottenham’s first-choice goalkeeper for years.

Paolo Maldini already feels that Donnarumma is the ‘best in the world’ as a goalkeeper, so AC Milan will be gutted to lose him for free.

Spurs will also be gutted to miss out, but this does at least show that Paratici has exciting targets in mind.
