Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to heap praise on Jérémy Doku after his stunning display for Belgium in their 2-1 defeat to Italy last night.
What’s the story?
Well, Doku – who Liverpool wanted in 2020 – delivered a display for the ages against Roberto Mancini’s men.
As tweeted by OptaJoe, the 19-year-old recorded eight dribbles in Munich.
Since Opta began collecting data, this is a record for a teenager at both the World Cup and the European Championships.
Doku terrorised Giovanni Di Lorenzo down the left flank, winning a penalty in first-half stoppage time after breezing past the full-back.
After watching his display, Lineker tweeted the following.
He’s 100% right – it was an electric display, and one that clubs surely couldn’t help but sit up and take notice of.
Will Liverpool go back in for him?
Now, when the news broke in 2020, it was said that Jürgen Klopp has wanted Doku for years, and you can see why.
It was also said by Doku’s father, David, that the German views the teenager as a long-term replacement for Sadio Mane at Anfield.

Goal quote David Doku as saying: “Klopp explained how he saw a potential successor to Sadio Mane in Jérémy.
“At the age of 16, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City, Ajax and PSV were interested. We then visited clubs like Liverpool and Ajax. My preference was Liverpool.”
Doku could’ve joined Liverpool a few years ago, but decided to stay at RSC Anderlecht following a pep talk from Romelu Lukaku.
Now, the Reds will surely face plenty of competition for the rapid forward, after he announced himself at EURO 2020.

In our view, Doku is made for Liverpool.
The thought of him surging up the Anfield turf, with Mane and Mohamed Salah also doing the same, is a mouthwatering prospect.
Opposition defences would be quaking in their boots, for sure.
Hopefully, Liverpool’s prior interest in Doku would give them an advantage if they decide to go back in for the Belgian wonderkid.
