New Ayr United striker Tomi Adeloye has told how Rangers duo Glen Kamara and Joe Aribo played a big part in his move to Scotland, with the Gers pair telling him not to turn down the chance to head north of the border.

Adeloye started his career at Charlton, spending seven years at The Valley before moving to Millwall.

Stints at clubs including Stoke City, Barnet, Chelmsford, Dagenham & Redbridge and Hartlepool followed before signing a short-term deal at East Kilbride in December 2020.

He’s now joined the Championship side on a one-year deal and hopes his form at Somerset Park can help him replicate the “unbelievable” profiles Aribo and Kamara have established in Scotland.

“A few of my friends have been doing quite well up here and I’m very close with Joe Aribo and Glen Kamara and I’d previously expressed thoughts to them about me coming up here,” Adeloye said, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“And they said to me, ‘don’t turn it down’.

“Your can only see what moving north has done to their careers, their profiles are unbelievable and that’s through their hard work.”

The Rangers duo have gone from strength to strength in Scotland and are both now full internationals and looking ahead to a possible Champions League debut this season.

While plenty come to Scotland and fail – like Joey Barton – there are countless examples of others who have crossed the border and taken their career to the next level.
