Sunderland now risk missing out on Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Dion Sanderson to bitter rivals Newcastle United.
The Black Cats had Sanderson on loan last season, and he played a key role in helping Lee Johnson’s men claim a play-off spot.
Now back with Wolves, Sanderson could be sold this summer – and he may end up on Tyneside instead of Wearside.
Newcastle make move for Sanderson
The Daily Mail report that Newcastle have now made a bid for Sanderson in an effort to hijack Sunderland’s move.
Sunderland have offered £1million to sign Sanderson permanently, with Newcastle moving in with a £1.5million bid.
Both bids have been rejected, but Newcastle are closer to the £2million asking price as things stand and may now be favourites to secure a deal that would leave Sunderland fans raging.

Sunderland fans have their say
Sunderland fans have been taking to Twitter to react to the rumours, begging Sanderson not to join Newcastle this summer.
Some believe that Sunderland now have ‘no chance’ of signing Sanderson this summer, believing that he will now end up at Newcastle.
Some don’t begrudge him such a move, but wish he was going anywhere but Newcastle given the rivalry between the clubs.
