Quite a lot of Arsenal fans were happy with the speculation about William potentially leaving the club.

Arsenal gave the Brazilian winger a £220,000-a-week contract after signing him on a free transfer last summer.

But it was a dismal first season in North London for the former Chelsea star, who scored one goal in 37 games across all competitions.

As a result, many Gunners fans weren’t too upset by the rumours of him possibly leaving after just one year.

David Beckham’s Inter Miami had emerged as a real candidate in recent weeks, but The Sun has this morning reported that the MLS side have pulled out of a deal.

The report adds that the veteran Arsenal attacker was demanding £167,000 per week, which is more than double what Gonzalo Higuain – their highest earner – makes in Florida.

Bad news

Arsenal severed ties with Mesut Ozil entirely on Wednesday.

The North Londoners got him off their books for good after a number of years paying him for literally no reason.

Ozil’s £350,000-a-week wages have proven problematic for Arsenal and with Willian also on huge money, they might’ve just repeated a big mistake.

Willian is under contract for another two years, guaranteeing him well over £20 million in salary until then.

You would think he’d want to leave in order to play regular football but, as the Ozil fiasco proved, it isn’t quite that simple and Arsenal should be worrying that this could develop into another situation of a mega-earning player not wanting to go anywhere.
