Aberdeen manager Stephen Glass has indicated that Rangers target Lewis Ferguson may now be staying at Pittodrie despite handing in a transfer request earlier in the transfer window, while speaking to Red TV.
A month ago, the midfielder’s agent confirmed one of the worst-kept secrets in Scottish football.
After three years, 124 appearances and 21 goals, Lewis Ferguson wanted a fresh start.
The Hamilton-born youngster handed in a transfer request at the end of May and, at the time, was courting interest from Steven Gerrard’s Rangers as well as Premier League newcomers Watford (Scottish Sun).
Since then, however, things have gone rather quiet.
That may have something to do with the fact that Aberdeen are demanding a fee well in excess of £2 million, describing an opening offer from Watford as ‘insulting’ on their official website.
Since then, Rangers appear to have turned their focus to alternative targets too, with Ivan Lepinjica, Salih Ozcan and former Auchenhowie prospect Billy Gilmour all linked with a move to Ibrox.
Ozcan has now signed a new contract at Bundesliga outfit Cologne, however, while Gilmour is expected to join Norwich on loan.
Will Rangers target Lewis Ferguson stay at Aberdeen?
Is Ferguson now destined to spend another year in the red of Aberdeen?
If so, it will be interesting to see how the Pittodrie faithful react to a man who has made it clear that he sees his future elsewhere when they return to the terraces.

“The latest news is that we’ve still got Lewis at the club so we’re delighted about that,” said Glass, who recently replaced Derek McInnes in the Dons hot seat.
“To me, his commitment level is there and nobody should question it.
“What’s happened has happened but he’s an Aberdeen player until further notice, the same with all our players. Our players will be in demand so it’s not a shock that people want to buy our players, but the valuation has to be right for the club or they stay and play for us until that is met.”
Ferguson, the nephew of Rangers legend Barry, contributed ten goals and five assists during a disappointing season for Aberdeen in 2020/21.
