The trail on Ben White to Arsenal has gone a little cold.
The Athletic reported last week that the Gunners were set to sign the Brighton & Hove Albion defender in what would be a £50 million deal.
But there’s been very little concrete speculation since then and Arsenal fans are understandably growing nervous.
That being said, Football London journalist Chris Wheatley has offered good news on this front.
Writing on Twitter, Wheatley confirmed that the deal to sign the 23-year-old was effectively completed but with White away on international duty with England, the formalities are yet to be done.
The reporter – who exclusively covers Arsenal – added that the Emirates Stadium outfit were the player’s preferred destination.
Coming together
Arsenal’s window is starting to come together nicely.
Earlier today, Fabrizio Romano reported that the Gunners were set to sign Nuno Tavares in a £6.8 million deal and with Albert Sambi Lokonga also reportedly on the way from Anderlecht, the North Londoners are certainly getting their business done.
Is it enough?
In a word, no.
Mikel Arteta will need more than White, Lokonga and Nuno to really improve.
Despite finishing eighth in the Premier League last season, Arteta’s side boasted the third-best defensive record in the division – and all three of those are primarily defensive players.
Where Arsenal failed was scoring goals and until the Spanish coach, along with Edu, adds some firepower, the fans won’t get all that excited.
