Towards the end of 2019, barely a day went by without Mohamed Daramy being linked with a move to Celtic.

In November, 90Min reported Celtic had been watching a 17-year-old winger who had drawn comparisons with a young Sadio Mane after bursting on to the scene for Danish top-tier side Copenhagen.

But, for whatever reason, the trail went cold after weeks of incessant speculation.

Why? Perhaps Celtic had some understandable concerns about the prospect of paying £5 million for a 17-year-old with a handful of first-team games under his belt.

However, with reports suggesting Daramy could now join AC Milan, Sevilla or Bayer Leverkusen for twice as much, Celtic may end up wishing they’d taken a punt on a man who’d have brought speed, skill and unpredictability to an attack that flattered to deceive throughout a miserable 2020/21 campaign.

AC Milan chasing Celtic target Daramy

Tuttomercatoweb reports Daramy is valued at about £9 million by Copenhagen these days.

Interest from Sevilla, Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig should come as no surprise either.

All three clubs are famed for unearthing rough diamonds, buying low and selling high.

Bayer Leverkusen, meanwhile, have a superb track record when it comes to developing young attackers. Daramy could learn a thing or two from Leon Bailey and Moussa Diaby.

And then there’s AC Milan.

Stefano Pioli led the Rossoneri to second place in Serie A last season, despite working with the youngest squad in the division.

Since summer 2019, Milan have signed nine players under the age of 25, including Fikayo Tomori, Sandro Tonali and the human express train that is Theo Hernandez.

Celtic have already been left rueing their failure to bring in Noa Lang and Silas Wamangituka during Neil Lennon’s second spell at Parkhead.

And, should Daramy maintain his rapid rise in Milan, Leipzig or Sevilla, the Hoops may have another regret to add to a list longer than the Magna Carta.
