Copenhagen wonderkid Mohammed Daramy is reportedly a target for Premier League leaders Liverpool and Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.

Blessed with rapid pace, the skill of a street footballer and an eye for goal to boot, there are certainly more than a few similarities between Copenhagen wonderkid Mohammed Daramy and Liverpool’s title-chasing talisman Sadio Mane.

Still in his teenage years, and with just one year of senior football under his belt, Daramy has a long way to go before he can match the achievements of a forward who has a Champions League winners medal and the Premier League Golden Boot on his mantelpiece.

According to 90Min, Liverpool are planning a January move to bring the jet-heeled youngster to Merseyside and, according to a man who has watched Daramy transform from an unknown youngster to one of the most exciting talents in Scandinavia, he certainly has the raw talent to follow in the footsteps of arguably the most prolific winger in the game right now.

“He’s obviously very talented,” Danish football journalist Anders Dehn told HITC.

“Copenhagen are the wealthiest and most successful club in Denmark and they don’t have to use young players to fill any gaps. They only play if they are good. So, at least in a Danish context, Daramy is a big talent who they’ll probably expect to sell on for a big fee one day.

“In terms of comparing him to other players: He’s quick, a good dribbler, and a goal threat. He can play on either the wing or as a centre forward. I don’t want to say that he’s the next Sadio Mané but as a type he’s similar I think.”

With Mane going from strength to strength as part of a star-studded Liverpool attack, Daramy would certainly have his work cut out if he swaps the Parken Stadium for Anfield in the winter. It goes without saying that he’d have to be patient, content with the odd EFL Cup cameo.

Maybe Celtic, then, represents a far more secure stepping stone for a teenager who needs to play regular first-team football at a crucial stage in his development. According to 90Min, Neil Lennon’s side are also interested in Daramy.

With Copenhagen demanding a minimum of £5 million, as reported by Bold, the Sierra Leone-born wonderkid wouldn’t come cheap but Celtic have a history when it comes to signing exciting young talents before selling them on for a substantial profit, from Virgil van Dijk to Moussa Dembele, Victor Wanyama to Stuart Armstrong.

“Definitely (Celtic would be a better move than Liverpool),” adds Dehn, who has watched Daramy closely in his role for TipsBladet.

“While I think staying at Copenhagen for now makes the most sense – he’s still waiting for Danish citizenship – Liverpool would be too big a step in terms of first team football, so, between the two, Celtic would allow him to play more.

“And he’s only just broken into the first team at Copenhagen so regular playing time must to be his number one priority.”

Only 16 years old and debut Mohammed Daramy of FC Copenhagen in the Danish Superliga match between AC Horsens and FC Copenhagen at CASA Arena on December 2, 2018 in Horsens, Denmark.
