If the Guardian are to be trusted, Crystal Palace are planning to hold talks with a very exciting coach in the coming days – Lucian Favre.

What’s the story?

Well, the Swiss manager – who was sacked by Borussia Dortmund back in December – has been sounded out by Crystal Palace’s Steve Parish.

The 63-year-old is keen to manage in the Premier League, and has been in contact with the Eagles as they look to replace Roy Hodgson.

Interestingly, the Guardian claim that Parish admires Favre for his attacking approach, and also his past work with young players.

Sean Dyche remains a contender for the job.

However, any move for the Burnley boss is likely to cost a considerable compensation package.

Favre was said to be keen on the Celtic job, before Ange Postecoglou was hired.

Jürgen Klopp is a big fan of Lucian Favre

One man who’s a massive fan of the Crystal Palace target is Jürgen Klopp.

The German – who knows a thing or two about management, to say the least – once described Favre as a ‘very good coach’ after his move to Dortmund.

In an interview with BILD, Klopp said: “I think the choice is extraordinarily good. A very good coach back in the Bundesliga in a very good club.”

If the Liverpool boss thinks someone’s a good manager, then they’ve probably got a bit of talent in their locker, in truth.

In our view, it would be an outstanding appointment for Crystal Palace.

Favre led Dortmund to successive second-place finishes in the Bundesliga, while his work with Borussia Mönchengladbach was phenomenal.

He saved the German outfit from relegation, before leading them into the Champions League the following season.

Favre also guided OGC Nice to the Champions League, while also managing to coach the problematic Mario Balotelli into the form of his life.

The eccentric Italian even described Favre as a ‘great manager’ – for someone as difficult as Balotelli to say this speaks volumes.

If Parish pulls this one off, he deserves huge praise.
