According to Roma Press, Granit Xhaka is looking likely to leave Arsenal before Switzerland begin their Euro 2020 campaign.

The midfielder has spent five years with Arsenal having joined from Borussia Monchengladbach for £35million in 2016.

Jose Mourinho now wants him at Roma, and Xhaka is inching ever closer to the Arsenal exit door – so much so that a deal could be done by weekend after Xhaka promised Mourinho he would be leaving.

Xhaka wants Arsenal exit before Saturday

Switzerland kick off their Euro 2020 campaign against Wales on Saturday afternoon, just the second game of the entire competition.

It’s claimed that Xhaka has urged agent Jose Noguera to get the deal wrapped up before that game kicks off, as he doesn’t want any transfer rumours hanging over him during the tournament.

Roma are therefore confident that a deal will be done by Friday, with Xhaka’s exit potentially just over 24 hours away.

Arsenal prepare to take £20million loss

Sky Italia claim that Arsenal have dropped their asking price to €17.5million (£15million), with Roma Press stating that Noguera has forced the Gunners into that decision.

That means Arsenal are now ready to take a £20million loss on Xhaka, despite boss Mikel Arteta calling him ‘phenomenal’ earlier this year.

Xhaka still has two years left on his deal, so the Gunners aren’t under immediate pressure to sell, but seem ready to move on in a cut-price deal.
