Duncan Castles has claimed on the Transfer Window Podcast that Leeds United are among the clubs interested in signing Ben White.
Leeds United’s interest
As we covered here on HITC Sport earlier today, the well-known and well-respected journalist has reported that Leeds wanted to sign White last summer.
The West Yorkshire club remain interested in the 23-year-old defender, according to Castles.
The England international spent the 2019-20 campaign on loan at Leeds from Brighton and Hove Albion.
The youngster did well for the Seagulls in the Premier League this past season.
The Daily Mail has claimed that Brighton want as much as £50 million for White, with Arsenal and Liverpool keen on him.
Brighton do not have to sell.
The Seagulls are not in any major financial problem and will sell White only on their own terms.
Waste of money?
Now, do Leeds really need to splash out £50 million on a player they do not need?
However, Leeds are well stocked in central defence.
Diego Llorente and Robin Koch joined Leeds only last summer.
Pascal Struijk also did well for head coach Marcelo Bielsa when he had to play in defence.
Don’t forget, Liam Cooper is going as strong as ever.
No one is saying that White would not make Leeds – or any other team for that matter – better.
The point is that Leeds do not need another central defender, especially one who could cost £50 million.
Yes, Gaetano Berardi has left, but the defender was injured for most of the season and was not really missed on the pitch.
Leeds would be better off investing that £50 million in other departments.
