The agent of reported Liverpool target Boubacar Kamara has told Le Phoceen £20 million may be enough to lure the France U21 international away from Marseille.

If Jurgen Klopp has learned anything from an exhausting 2020/21 campaign, it’s the virtue of versatility.

Injury-stricken Liverpool were stretched to their limits with so many key players on the treatment table, meaning the likes of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum were forced to adapt to unfamiliar roles to fill in the gaps.

So Kamara, an adaptable and technically astute player who is equally comfortable in central midfield or at centre-half, could be a valuable addition to the Anfield dressing room, especially if Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez take longer than expected to recover match sharpness.

In March, Calciomercato reported the Marseille-born 21-year-old was a summer transfer target for the 2020 Premier League champions.

Kamara has just 12 months left on his contract and recently admitted he was “ready” for a fresh start.

But how much would it cost to sign one of the most talented young defenders in French football?

Could Liverpool sign Kamara for a cut-price fee?

“It is necessary to understand there is a huge difference between the absolute value of a player and his value at a time when he has only one year left on his contract,” says agent Bruno Satin.

“This is the case, for example, of Kylian Mbappe, who today is worth only €118 million (£100 million) while he is by far the most expensive player in the world in absolute value.

“In absolute value, we could put (Kamara) between €30 million and €35 million, in my opinion.

“With a contract expiring next year, if OM manage to get €20 million or €25 million (for Kamara) it would be, in my opinion, a good deal for a non-international player in his situation.”

While Ibrahima Konate has arrived from RB Leipzig already, there are still doubts over the futures of Joel Matip, Nat Phillips and Ben Davies, while Ozan Kabak will return to Schalke.

This all suggests Liverpool may be in the market for another central defender this summer.
