Schalke hope to raise £18 million through the sale of Ozan Kabak with Leicester City and Newcastle United potentially set to offer the defender a second Premier League chance, as reported by BILD.
Well, let’s hope Leicester supporters have the memories of a goldfish with amnesia.
Because, as recently as February, Kabak was enduring a miserable start to life in England’s top flight. His comical collision with an onrushing Alisson Becker gifted Brendan Rodgers’ side the lead in a game they would go on to win 3-1 at the King Power Stadium.
However the Foxes, it seems, are willing to overlook the Turk’s ill-fated afternoon in the East Midlands.
Perhaps Brendan Rodgers feels Kabak can thrive alongside his fellow Turkey international Caglar Soyuncu?
Leicester and Newcastle keen on Liverpool loanee Kabak
The pair impressed as Senol Gunes’ Euro 2020 dark horses beat the Netherlands in March and, according to BILD, Kabak and Soyuncu could soon be forging a partnership at club level too.
The 21-year-old former Stuttgart and Galatasaray man is also a target for a Newcastle side looking to replace the out-of-contract Federico Fernandez.
And, following Stuttgart’s traumatic relegation, the fallen giants of German football are under pressure to raise funds – and fast.
Kabak, valued at £18 million, is their most sellable asset with Premier League clubs already expressing an interest.
Kabak bounces back from King Power calamity
The youngster bounced back from that disaster in Leicester and impressed with his positional sense during his short-lived spell at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp even described him as an “unbelievable” talent but, when it became clear Ibrahima Konate would be available, Liverpool decided against triggering the option-to-buy clause in Kabak’s contract in favour of the RB Leipzig powerhouse.
According to The Sun, Kabak is now looking for a new club – preferably one that will meet his £80,000-a-week wage demands.
