Liverpool can sign Porto starlet Fabio Vieira for a cut-price fee of £18 million in the summer transfer window with Marko Grujic potentially going in the other direction, as reported by CM Jornal.

What do Rudi Voller, Laurent Blanc, Thiago Alcantara, Juan Mata, Petr Cech and Andrea Pirlo all have in common?

They all won the player of the year award at the U21 European Championships.

And, after Portugal reached the final of the 2021 edition, 21-year-old Fabio Vieira became the latest name to join an illustrious list, handed the Golden Ball following a series of eye-catching performances in his favoured number ten role.

Vieira looked a cut above during the tournament in Hungary and Slovenia, sparkling as Portugal defeated neighbours Spain in the semi-finals.

And, according to reports coming out of Iberia today, the elegant playmaker has swaggered his way on to the radar of a Liverpool side that, for all its talents, could be accused of lacking a defence-splitting, attacking midfielder in the mould of this Aveiro-born whizzkid.

Could Liverpool bag Vieira via Grujic swap deal?

Porto don’t often let prized assets leave on the cheap.

But, with just one year left on his contract, the Dragons have come to the conclusion it makes more sense to sell Vieira now than risk losing him on a free next year.

Understandable really, given Porto’s entire business model is built on finding, developing and then cashing in on exciting up-and-comers.

CM Jornal reports that, although Vieira has a £25 million release clause in his contract, bids of £18 million will be considered.

Liverpool, meanwhile, could use forgotten man Marko Grujic as a makeweight in the deal. Grujic spent last season on loan at Porto and became a firm favourite of manager Sergio Conceicao.

Arsenal were also linked with the silky, skilful Vieira earlier this year.
