Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has shared Arsenal’s view on Andre Onana amid reports they’ve bid for the Ajax goalkeeper.

Arsenal have been linked with Onana for some time now, and over the weekend it was reported that the Gunners made their first offer for the Cameroon international.

Romano now says that Arsenal are massive fans of Onana, with people at the club seeing him as the perfect goalkeeper.

Romano delivered an update on the situation between Arsenal and Onana.

“Yes, contacts are ongoing. They are waiting for the situation of Onana’s ban to see how long it will be, but Arsenal are still in talks with the agent of Onana. They are really interested in Onana, they see him as the perfect goalkeeper, but the suspension will be key to understanding what’s happening with Onana,” Romano said.

Perfect goalkeeper

We can absolutely understand why Arsenal are so big on the 25-year-old.

The Ajax man is certainly one of the world’s premier stoppers. He finished seventh on the Yashin Trophy voting back in 2019, and he was once described as ‘one of the best in the world’.

You only need to look at Ajax’s run in the 2018/19 Champions League to see just how good Onana can be, especially at the top level, and while he’s unproven in a league such as the Premier League, there’s reason to believe he’ll flourish.

As Romano says, Arsenal were waiting for news on his suspension, but on Thursday we learned that his ban will indeed be reduced, boosting the chances of Arsenal signing him this summer.
